SAN JOSE – A 26-year-old staff member at San Jose’s Oak Grove High School was arrested Thursday on suspicion of possessing child pornography, authorities said.

Estevan Gerardo Carrillo

On May 13, the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force opened an investigation after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children passed on a tip from a social media platform that Estevan Gerardo Carrillo had files depicting child pornography, said San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten.

Tepoorten said the task force confirmed the tip and learned that Carrillo worked as a paraeducator at Oak Grove.

On Thursday, the police department’s MERGE Unit served a search warrant at Carrillo’s home in San Jose and took him into custody without incident, Tepoorten said.

Carrillo was booked into Santa Clara County jail on a charge of possession of child pornography.

Tepoorten said there is no evidence at this time that the child pornography involved any Oak Grove students.

Carrillo has worked as a paraeducator for the East Side Union High School District since October 2014, said Glenn Vander Zee, the district’s associate superintendent of human resources.

“The district has no additional comment at this time as it is cooperating with the investigation of the San Jose Police Department,” Vander Zee said.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information can contact San Jose police Detective Christian Mendoza, or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-7867 or at svcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
